Iranian hackers still have their sights set on US targets. The latest report, courtesy of security researchers at FireEye, claims that an Iranian hacking group called Ajax Security Team attempted a sophisticated attack targeting US defense contractors attending an IEEE aerospace convention. Ajax used spear phishing emails to install malicious key logging software onto the computers of those who fell victim to the hack. The software then took screenshots, logged keystrokes, and recorded inputted login and password information.

Ajax also went after Iranians who attempted to circumvent the country's stringent Internet blockages by using VPNs and other IP proxies. It's unclear what their ultimate motivations are but "there is a considerable grey area between the cyber espionage capabilities of Iran’s hacker groups and any direct Iranian government or military involvement," RedEye warned.
