This "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" Featurette Highlights the Film's Mo-Cap Technology

Take a peek behind the mo-cap technology from “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.”

The motion-capture technology implemented in 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes was revolutionary for the time. Now for the sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, director Matt Reeves is looking to expand upon those building blocks by creating more emotive apes designed to further immerse audiences.

In the featurette above, you can see side-by-side comparisons of real actors on set next to their digital ape counterparts. Of course, the master of the mo-cap, Andy Serkis, plays a big role as Caesar in the movie, but Reeves has employed a whole troupe of actors to pull off the impressive digital feat.

We’ll see how it all comes together when Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on July 11.
