Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. has given the new Batman vs. Superman its official title. Henceforth, the Zack Snyder-helmed project shall be known as:

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice

The thing that jumps out right away is the inclusion of the word “justice.” Anyone following the development of this movie can tell you that the title basically spells out that this is the beginning of the buildup for the Justice Leaguefilm, which will prominently feature both Batman and Superman.

It echoes Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger, which used the same sort of trick in both the title as well as the film itself to indicate where the franchise was headed and give fans something to look forward to.

The movie will star Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman. Fast and the Furious veteran Gal Gadot will play Diana Prince (AKA Wonder Woman), Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane will all reprise their roles from Man of Steel, and making their debuts to the franchise will be Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth), and Holly Hunter.

Principal photography on Dawn of Justice is slated to begin today, making the timing of the announcement rather appropriate. With the cast assembled and filming underway, we can expect more details about the movie to trickle out in the coming days, weeks, and months.
