The Harry Potter franchise may be over, but that doesn't mean that Alfonso Cuarón is finished with the franchise just yet. According to The Film Stage, via a tweet from former Deadline editor-in-chief Nikki Finke, Cuarón is in "deep talks" to direct the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Cuarón, if you don't remember, originally directed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban before moving on to the Oscar-winning film Gravity.

The film itself will only loosely be associated with Harry Potter—more specifically, it'll just take place within the wizarding world that Rowling created. It'll take place in NYC, 70 years before the events of Harry Potter, and follow the adventures of Newt Scamander, who himself originated in one of the required textbooks at Hogwarts.

As for whether or not Cuarón will be involved, it might be a while until we have official confirmation: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is expected in theaters November 18, 2016.
