Lords of the Fallen isn't Dark Souls but it's definitely in the same family. This hardcore, action role-playing game has a story following a single protagonist sinner, chosen as the most evil man in society to plunge into the depths and defeat angry gods. Also you get to strap on enormous claws and hack stuff apart.

Lords is full of the punishing mini-bosses and magical crafting that can only be overcome or discovered through trail and error and eventually skill. Just as the trailer above shows, you will die, but the developer says you probably won't die while falling off a cliff, but by being hacked apart by an enormous champion.

I wasn't able to get hands-on with Lords when viewing the game earlier this month but was able to get my face really close to the screen; this game is gorgeous. If you like the go-it-alone action of Dark Souls and the crushing consequences of dying, but simply can't stand falling off damn cliffs and want a little story with your slashing, Lords of the Fallen is for you.

Lords of the Fallen is set to drop this fall on PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and PC.
