Authorities say a two-year-old boy survived the fall from a third floor apartment window on the Lower East Side this morning.

According to police, the boy, identified as Jayvin Cruz, fell from the window around 1:21 a.m. Witnesses told the New York Post that a plastic garbage bin broke his fall, and his family rushed to his aid immediately. Carmen Fernandez, his grandmother, told ABC New York that he was playing in a room as his father slept, and that one of the apartment's windows did not have guards, which a landlord was supposed to have installed.

The boy was taken to Bellevue Hospital with non life-threatening bumps and bruises. While police are investigating his fall, no charges have been filed and they do not suspect anything criminal took place.
