Today on his Facebook page, director Peter Jackson revealed the title of the third and final installment of The Hobbit film series:

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Many had expected the title to be “There and Back Again,” which had been the idea when the story was going to be told over just two films; per Jackson, this was the plan "when Bilbo’s arrival there, and departure, were both contained within the second film."

However, when the third movie became a reality, that formula no longer worked. Those who have seen The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug can tell you that Bilbo both arrived “there” and started his trip “back” during the film, so the former working title could not really be properly applied.

But if you just love the idea of “There and Back Again” used as a title, fear not. Jackson also said in his post “don’t be surprised if you see it used on a future box-set of all three movies.” So, at least there’s that, right?
