Mark Burnett, the executive producer of The Voice on NBC, confirmed on Twitter last night that Gwen Stefani will be joining the singing talent show as the newest judge/coach when the show's eighth season begins shooting this summer. She’ll become part of a group that includes chair-swiveling mainstays Blake Shelton and Adam Levine along with fellow newcomer Pharrell Williams.
Stefani had actually dropped a major hint earlier in the day on her Instagram, and fellow Voice host Christina Aguilera really ruined the surprise with this tweet:
Before you get too worried about Stefani stealing X-tina’s seat, we’ll tell you this: Aguilera is scheduled to return to the show for its eighth season, so-much like the Shakira seasons-her absence in the fall will be merely brief hiccup.
If you’re excited to see Stefani and Pharrell on the show, you won’t have to wait until season eight airs this fall. They’ll both be performing next Monday, which we can only assume will be “b-a-n-a-n-a-s.”
