Three third-graders were caught smoking marijuana in the bathroom of a California elementary school, officials say.

CBS San Francisco reports that two eight-year-olds and a nine-year-old were discovered smoking weed in the bathroom at Sonora Elementary School in Sonora, Calif. by another student on Feb. 27. The student made school administrators aware, and they immediately contacted police. Following questioning, the students were released to their parents.

Though Principal Chris Boyles declined comment, Superintendent Leigh Shampain confirmed the incident. Some parents are calling for the students to be expelled, but Shampain refused to disclose the disciplinary action the school will take. CBS San Francisco adds that, in the interim, the case has been passed along to the Tuolumne County Probation Department.
