The NSA Has Allegedly Been Using Backdoors to Spy on Huawei for Years

Surprise, surprise.

The US government has made long-standing accusations about Huawei's surveillance practices, levying charges that the electronics giant installed backdoors into its products on behalf of China. But, rather ironically, a new report suggests the NSA has itself been spying on Huawei.

The US government reportedly built backdoors directly into Huawei's servers in Shenzen, China, according to documents leaked by Edward Snowden and cited by the New York Times. “Many of our targets communicate over Huawei-produced products,” read the NSA file. “We want to make sure that we know how to exploit these products" to “gain access to networks of interest” globally.

"The irony is that exactly what they are doing to us is what they have always charged that the Chinese are doing through us," a Huawei executive told the Times by way of comment. Uh oh.
