The First Trailer for "The Maze Runner" is Here and it Hits All of the Right YA Notes

Are you ready to see more kids running for their lives?

There aren’t many genres more powerful in Hollywood right now than the Young Adult novel adaptation. With movie series like The Hunger Games, Twilight, and Divergent all generating deafening buzz and reaping huge profits (Divergent is tracking huge at the moment), every studio is rushing out to find the next big hit. And 20th Century Fox is hoping it has one with its adaptation of James Dashner’s The Maze Runner.

The Maze Runner will adapt the first book in the trilogy of novels by Dashner. Starring Dylan O’Brien (Teen Wolf) and Kaya Scodelario (Skins), the movie will focus on a group of boys forced to survive in—you guessed it—a giant maze. Apparently, no one has ever survived a night in this maze, which is consistent with the YA genre’s obsession with the thought of adolescent death.

Will The Maze Runner be the next Hunger Games or fizzle out like The Mortal Instruments? We won’t know for sure until it premieres on September 19.
