British actress Kate O'Mara, best known for her long-time role on the 1980s soap "Dynasty," died on Sunday at age 74. Phil Belfield, her agent, stated that she passed away after a "short illness" at a nursing home in England. 

O'Mara played Cassandra 'Caress' Morell in "Dynasty," a soap opera that focused on the wealthy lives of the [fictional]Carrington family.

"Dynasty" had a slow start but soon gained enormous success that spawned fashion trends, luxury products and a spin-off series called "The Colbys." According to ABC News, "Dynasty" was nominated every year from 1981 through 1986 for a Golden Globe Award for Best TV Drama.

O'Mara began her career in the 1960s as an actress in England. Her long career includes acting roles on stage, television and film. She also wrote two novels and two autobiographies.

Belfield expressed that, "a shining star has gone out and Kate will be dearly missed by all who knew and have worked with her."
