Liam Neeson is taking a break from the neck-snapping genre and heading back to traditional drama in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming period piece, Silence, according to Deadline. Neeson will join a cast that already includes Andrew Garfield and Ken Watanabe. As of right now, Neeson’s exact role hasn’t been specified, but whoever he plays will be a refreshing change from his recent indistinguishable action flicks.

Silence is based on the novel of the same name by Japanese author Shusaku Endo. The book is set in the 17th century and focuses on two Jesuit priests who are persecuted for trying to bring Christianity to Japan. For fans of Neeson’s recent adrenaline-fueled action pics, the actor is still slated to return for Taken 3, so you can take solace in knowing that he’s not hanging up the holster just yet.
