In one of the most random comic book movie rumors to hit the Internet in a while, Movies.com is reporting that Josh Gad (1600 Penn, Frozen) is currently being eyed by 20th Century Fox to play Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, in the studio’s upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. The site is claiming that sources have told them that not only is Gad being considered for the part, he is actually the studio’s first choice for the role.

Most comic fans will instantly associate The Thing with a rugged bruiser like Michael Chiklis, who played him in the franchise’s previous incarnation. Being more of a comedic actor, Gad looks to be the exact opposite of that. However, if Fox is planning on using a completely CGI Thing for this movie, Gad might be able to pull this off. He has already proven himself capable of bringing life to animated characters with his performance as Olaf from Frozen. That role might be the main reason for his consideration in this movie.

Again, this is all a rumor at this point, so don’t be surprised if there is another name linked to this role at the same time next week.

The Fantastic Four will hit theaters on June 19, 2015.
