"Insidious 2" Was The Year's Best Investment

Up until Paul Walker's untimely death, 2013 was a huge year for James Wan and The Wrap just reminded everyone why with their list of movies that had the best return on investment (ROI). With a $5 million budget and a $160 million worldwide box office gross, Wan's Insidious: Chapter 2 is the most lucrative film of the year.

The Conjuring, also directed by Wan, rounds out the top three. Iron Man 3, despite being the year's highest grossing film, is only the eighth best ROI. Of the conclusions drawn from that list, on which The Purge placed second: low-budget horror films are here to stay, and so is James Wan. Of all the doubt and anxiety currently surrounding Fast & Furious 7, none of that extends to Wan's capability to pull it off.
