Brooklyn Hospital Told Healthy People They Contracted HIV

Far from your simple mistake.

A lawsuit reveals that lab technicians at Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn told healthy patients they were HIV-positive on several occasions. Conversely, they told people who tested positive for Hepatitis C that they were perfectly healthy. Furthermore, the suit alleges that the hospital's failure to report blood level changes led to another patient's death.

Lili Hutchinson, who worked in the lab for 23 years, finally blew the whistle after over a decade of issues. Hutchinson claims superiors retaliated against her, denying her training and promotions and transferring her to other departments.

She finally informed the Department of Health in 2011, prompting an investigation that proved her allegations to be true. The hospital has since been slapped with multiple violations, but Hutchinson says she's been suspended for speaking up.

If you call your employer out, they'll always try to protect themselves by painting you as the bad guy.
