The bigger the city, the more drunks there are inhabiting it.

The New York Post got its hand on a survey which revealed that one out of every five adult New Yorkers owned up to "binge drinking"—at least five drinks at a time for men; 4 for women—during the past 30 days. A total of 1.2 million residents admit to getting hammered, an 18 percent increase over 2011.

Furthermore, a 2012 Community Health survey showed that nearly 57 percent of New Yorkers admitted to drinking at least once in the previous 30 days—another increase over the previous year.

Binge drinking also seems to be more of a problem for men than women, as 27 percent confessed to it compared to just 14 percent of women. There's also a geographic factor, with many of the heavy drinkers residing in Manhattan's neighborhoods: a third in Chelsea/Greenwich Village and Union Square/Lower Manhattan, alone.

Why so much boozing? Is it to forget that your whole paycheck is going towards rent (unless you're rich)?
