A few weeks ago it was announced Halo 3 would be the next title to hit the Xbox Marketplace for free through their Games for Gold promotion.
The time has now arrived for Xbox Live gold members to grab their free copy of arguably the console's most popular franchise.
From October 16 until the end of the month, all Xbox gold members can download a free digital copy of Halo 3. Originally released in 2007, Halo 3, was the best selling game of that year moving roughly 5 million copies.
Seem's slightly outdated for Microsoft to use Halo 3 as a promotion, but maybe their latest philanthropist act will drum up some interest in gamers who lost touch with the franchise.
Previous games released through the promotion included Rainbow Six: Vegas, Dead Rising 2, Magic 2013, Assassin's Creed 2 and Crackdown.
