Government Shutdown Shuts Marriages Down in D.C.

So much for matrimony.

You can add getting married to the list of things you can't do in D.C.during the shitd—excuse us, shutdown of the federal government. DCist notes that, in the shutdown plan released by District of Columbia Courts, D.C. Courts say the "Superior Court's Family Court Marriage Bureau will not be accepting marriage license applications, nor performing weddings." However, they did add that anyone simply needing to pick up a marriage license they already applied for was permitted to do so.

This morning, D.C. Courts had a change of heart, tweeting that they will be accepting marriage license applications. That's a small victory, but in the meantime, the shutdown is still ruining lives in the District. If you can't stroll down the isle to Jagged Edge's "Let's Get Married," blame the government.
