For all of the damage that cell phones (smartphones, specifically) do in terms of making people socially awkward zombies, here's a positive. For one Florida man, his cell phone literally saved his life after stopping a bullet during an attempted robbery of a gas station early yesterday morning.
Just before 5 a.m., a man entered a Winter Garden, Fla.Hess and asked a clerk for directions. Just as the clerk was responding, the man brandished a gun and demanded him to open the safe. When he was unable, the suspect ordered the second clerk to make himself useful and try to crack it open.
When he also failed, the assailant made a break for the door, but fired one shot at the clerk just before leaving. The clerk didn't even realize that he had been shot in the stomach until he removed his phone from his shirt pocket and saw that it had stopped the bullet. It was nothing short of a miracle.
