The project has been in the works for ages.

After sitting on the backburner for years now, that much-talked about Tupac Shakur biopic from Morgan Creek Productions is finally moving forward with Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films—and an estimated $45 million budget. According to Deadline, the film will begin production in 2014.

Many incarnations of the film have been talked about for years, with directors like Antoine Fuqua and John Singleton previously in talks to direct. The project currently doesn't have a director attached, but with the money in place, Deadline assures that the film will definitely happen next year. Furthermore, it'll be happening with the blessing of Tupac's mother, Afeni Shakur (who is on board as a producer), and the film has full access to Tupac's music catalog to use in the pic.

No word yet on who'll be portraying Tupac, but with production slated to begin in February 2014, it shouldn't be long before the studio secures an actor for the role. We'll have more information on this as it becomes available.
