NJ Governor Chris Christie to Appeal State's Gay Marriage Ruling

Superior Court Judge Mary Jacobson ruled that, beginning Oct. 21, the state of New Jersey must start allowing gay marriages. In a 53-page opinion, Judge Jacobson said: "Same-sex couples must be allowed to marry in order to obtain equal protection of the law under the New Jersey constitution."

Jacobson's ruling will be appealed by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie; the appeal is expected to go as high as New Jersey's Supreme Court. Michael Drewniak, a spokesman for Christie, explained his motives in a statement:
