HBO is getting into the J.J. Abrams business. Apparently they've committed to a pilot produced by the Bad Robot head honcho along with Jonathan Nolan, creator of CBS' Person of Interest and co-writer of The Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises, and veteran producer Jerry Weintraub. The project: an adaptation of Michael Crichton's 1973 science-fiction thriller film Westworld.

The cult classic centers on a Wild-West themed vacation experience that's inhabited by robots that, you guessed it, go haywire and start fucking shit up. At this point, it doesn't sound like a concept that can be feasibly stretched over five seasons, but if any duo could stick the landing, it's Abrams and the younger Nolan.
