Fail(s): Luck (HBO, 2012)

It's not Hoffman's fault. David Milch, the man behind Deadwood, is a weird genius that TV lovers will follow anywhere, so when it was announced that Michael Mann, Milch, and Hoffman were coming together for a series on HBO, we all riverdanced with joy.

And then the third horse died.

Luck, an unconventional (duh) and quietly brilliant (duh, again) series about horse racing, had been given the greenlight for a second season when another horse on the set up and died. And just like that, the second season was off. No more show. PETA is not to be fucked with. —Ross Scarano
