Last night, 13 people were shot in a park on Chicago's South Side. One of the victims was a 3-year-old boy. The shooting occured around 10:15 p.m. yesterday evening at Cornell Square Park, and authorities believe that it is gang-related.
Witnesses told the Chicago Sun-Times that two men drove past the park in a grey vehicle and opened fire. Two men reportedly exited the vehicle and continued shooting. The youngest victim, 3-year-old Deonta “Tay-man” Howard, was shot in the face. Howard was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
Howard's uncle, 22-year-old Julian Harris, described the shooting to the Sun-Times. "They hit the light pole next to me but I ducked down and ran into the house," he explained, adding that "[gang members] have coming [around] here looking for people to shoot every night."
