According to People, that is.

Here's some crazy, surprising news to start off your Wednesday morning with: Apparently, the reason that longtime couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones haven't been seen together since late April is because they've separated. Say whaaaat?

People magazine has the cold, hard facts: Two "close confidantes" to the stars—very trustworthy they are—revealed to the magazine that the two have been taking some time apart recently. "They're taking a break," one of the sources revealed, but stressed that no moves have been taken towards a legal separation or an official divorce.

It's worth noting that rumors about the couple separating have been floating around for ages—this report from UK tabloid The Mirror was published in late February 2013, for instance. You can take this two ways: Either, it's a rumor that just won't die, or, perhaps, the reason it won't die is because there's an ounce of truth to it. People tends to be very reputable when it comes to these stories, though.

Douglas and Zeta-Jones got married in 2000, and they have two kids together. According to a "friend" close to the couple, it's been their respective health issues that have come to light in the recent years—i.e., Douglas' battle with cancer, and Zeta-Jones' stuggle with bipolar II disorder—that have driven the two apart. "The stress has taken a toll on their marriage," the friend said.

The two are reportedly trying to work out their differences, because "they want the best for their kids, no matter what happens."
