Greenpoint Named Brooklyn's Worst Neighborhood

According to a recent survey, Greenpoint sucks. Using a web tool created by MIT professor César A. Hidalgo, Fast Company learned that people think Greenpoint is Brooklyn's worst neighborhood. Subjects were asked to compare Google Street View images while answering questions like “Which place looks wealthier?” 

Despite the fact that a place like East New York has a crime rate three times as bad as Greenpoint, subjects determined that Greenpoint was worse because it "looked" worse. Anytime someone tells you "perception is reality," shoot them the side-eye. Gothamist notes that Hidalgo says many people who took part in the study were not from New York City, and added that gentrification "is a largely internal process."
