Capcom has announced today, at San Diego Comic-Con, that it is releasing a brand new Strider game for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC next year.

The game will feature a "metroidvania" adventure with a more open and "retraceable" world with power-ups and combat abilities that will allow you to explore the expansive environments.

Double Helix, the studio behind Silent Hill: Homecoming and the upcoming Killer Instinct reboot, co-developed with the core creative leads from the original Strider at Capcom’s Osaka office. Hopefully this will be as fruitful as the paired east-west success that was the Devil May Cry reboot.

The new Strider will still by a side-scroller but with 3D graphics and feature nonlinear levels. Strider Hiryu and his sword Cypher will get all sorts of new upgrades including setting enemies on fire and unlocking "fire gates" and abilities to reflect enemy bullets and Hiryu’s famous scarf will be turned into plasma and allow new abilities.

We can't wait to get our hands on this one, who’s arcade versions ate-up the small quarter fortunes of our childhood.
