St. Louis, Mo.'s KSDK 5 has taken an in-depth look at the city's burgeoning hipster culture, and they make it sound as if they've just discovered a new species of insect. The award-worthy investigative report begins with the Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition of a hipster: Someone "interested in new and unconventional patterns" like "jazz or fashion." Did you hear that, St. Louis? It's time to throw on a beret, grow a goatee like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo and fire up that jazz at the coffee shop.

According to this dive into St. Louis' counterculture, the local jazz-lovers like to frequent daytime dance parties at The HandleBar in The Grove. Those who have jobs enjoy doing this during their lunch breaks as an escape from the bland, pedestrian trappings of work. Those who don't work do it just because it's unconventional.

They consulted Yelp for other hipster hangouts and named Reddit, Tumblr, Digg and Instagram among the hipster websites of choice. Oh, and shout out to them for using a picture of Natalie Portman in Hesher along with images of Jared Leto and Shia LaBeouf to illustrate how hipster culture has seemingly become popular culture overnight. We see what they did there. They did manage to pick up on the fact that hipsters don't like trendy things, even though being a hipster has become trendy.

Oh, the irony. The dreadful, dreadful irony.
