If you were holding your breath to see Christian Bale as Batman again in the upcoming Justice League movie, you can let out a very disappointed exhale now: According to Bale himself, he won't be stepping back into Bruce Wayne's batsuit any time soon.

"We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]," Bale explained to EW, when he called in to promote his upcoming film Out of the Furnace. "That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy." He goes on to explain that he and Chris Nolan didn't even expect the films to get up to a trilogy in the first place. "Chris [Nolan] always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ‘We’re about to make the third.’ We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well."

Bale added that he hasn't even been involved in any official discussions for the project, so he knows nothing more than the fact that the film is in development over at DC Comics. "I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it."

Does this mean Batman will be recast in the film? Possibly—especially considering that it sounds like DC will be starting the entire franchise over from scratch—and if that does happen, Bale commented that he isn't opposed. "It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with."
