Epic Games officially announced yesterday that their proprietary next-gen toolset Unreal Engine 4 will support the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, according to a report from Engadget. Alongside a lot of other industry middleware standard bearers, Oculus VR was named among Epic’s program for integrated partnerships yesterday.

The news shouldn’t really be a surprise to anyone, given that Epic’s former design director Cliff Bleszinski has been a very vocal supporter of the Rift since their Kickstarter was announced. Still, between the mindblowing effects of the VR headset itself and the near-photorealistic visuals U4 is capable of producing – not to mention the integration of the reformed and potentially revolutionary Kismet system, which allows developers using U4 to manipulate and tweak programmed elements in real-time – well, videogames could be getting a whole lot more immersive soon.
