Steam may soon be interesting the ability so share your games with friends.

Spotted by NeoGAF, three lines of code found in steams latest client beta make a reference to something called a "shared game library." The relevant lines spotted are:

  • "SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicense_Title" "Shared game library"
  • "SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicenseLocked_OwnerText" "Just so you know, your games are currently in use by %borrower%. Playing now will send %borrower% a notice that it's time to quit."
  • "SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicenseLocked_BorrowerText" "This shared game is currently unavailable. Please try again later or buy this game for your own library.

Currently Steam games are not available for trade, transfer or sharing but hopefully this code gives us a clue at their future sharing policy.

While not confirmed it's certainly a bit of interesting data. Steam and Valve could blow open the digital sharing market.
