On Monday morning, 100 students and eight chaperones from a Brooklyn high school were removed from a flight from New York to Atlanta for refusing to turn off their cell phones. The students were seniors at Yeshiva of Flatbush and reportedly refused to acknowledge several warnings from flight attendants and the captain who ordered them to sit down and turn their phones off.
When none of them followed orders, they got the boot, delaying the flight for 45 minutes in the process. The plane's captain should never have to jump on the PA system and tell people to sit down and turn their phones off. According to one witness, about 10 students seated at the plane's rear were disrespectful to the crew, "laughing at them and ignoring them."
However, some students feel they were singled out for being Orthodox Jews. "They treated us like we were terrorists; I've never seen anything like it. I'm not someone to make these kinds of statements," said Jonathan Zehavi.
