10 Comic Book Super Villains That Deserve Their Own Video Game

Odds of happening: 100 to 1

With Marvel greenlighting every horse in their stable to get turned into the next summer blockbuster, why shouldn't we see Thunderbolt Ross aka The Red Hulk in his own video game.

We've had two solidly 'meh' Hulk movies, and far more awful Hulk games, but Mark Ruffalo's performance in The Avengers made the Hulk seem marginally more interesting than his first big screen incarnations. It seems only logical that introducing the Red Hulk in the last phase of the Marvel Hollywood takeover would give us at least one more Avenger. I mean they cast John C. Reily as Ronan the Accuser in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

How is this idea any crazier?

God, this would make an amazing game if done correctly. Sure Doom has made appearances in plenty of games over the years. Marvel Ultimate Alliance, The Fantastic Four (the sooner those are forgotten, the better), and Marvel vs Capcom. Unfortunately he's always portrayed as a pretty boring one dimensional character that just takes up space.

Given the proper attention and writing, Victor Von Doom's story could be fucking epic. Magic, science, time travel, gypsy curses, and an army of Doom Bots could easily give one of the oldest of the old school Marvel baddies the respect he's due.

Odds of happening: 1000 to 1

Okay. Just imagine if Mike Mignola lent either has writing or his artists abilities to a game that centered on one of Hellboy's central, arguably the central, villain in the series.

Can you imagine a cell-shaded Rasputin running through a title with Mignola as an art director? Yeah. Even the one god awful Hellboy: The Science of Evil game didn't even bother including Rasputin. Blasphemy

While not technically a 'villain', Etrigan the Demon favors the sort of violent tendencies normally reserved for genocidal dictators.

With the Man of Steel film dropping and rekindling the hopes of seeing a Justice League film on the big screen at some point, why not start introducing some lesser known DC Universe characters? The guy even operated out of Gotham for a number of years.

As a demon that has control of the powers of hellfire and the mystic arts, he's also half-brother to the wizard Merlin. Give this guy a game with a Skyrim vibe and everyone will know the name Etrigan.

They cast Jamie Foxx as Electro in the next Spider-Man movie, eventually they're going to have to put Kraven on the big screen at some point.

Anyway, Kraven has shown up in multiple Spider-Man titles as a low level ding-dong that gets his teeth kicked down his throat. Just picture a title where you get to be Kraven the Hunter? Weird animal spirit abilities, pheromone tracking, sweet fur vests, and an awesome sounding Russian name. Sergei Kravinoff is Kraven the Hunter and we want those fur vests.

While the idea of getting Aqauman onto the big screen seems...far fetched at this point, one of his oldest rivals has appeared in more games than Aquaman himself.

Black Manta has been a punching bag of a boss in a few video games, most embarrassingly in the nigh unplayable Game Cube title, Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis. But, Black Manta has staying power. He's been around since the 60's and his suit would make for a dope upgradeable piece of RPG gear. Combine that with an under-water, open-sandbox world and we've another winner that will never see the light of day.

Whichever genius in LA figures out the Grendel franchise is an untapped gold mine of possible films and games will go down in history as one of the few film producers that ever did their homework.

Granted, it's almost guaranteed they'd fuck it up. For those of you who don't know who Grendel is, he's essentially an evil Batman. Massive oversimplification, but we don't have time for the subtle complexities of a 30 year old character. He's bad-ass, wears a sweet mask, and single handedly took over the New York underworld all by his lonesome.

Hell, he even fought Batman to a standstill. Give him a game where he can backflip from rooftop to rooftop and we've got the bloodiest Arkham City one could hope for.

An obscure villain from one of the most beautifully hand painted, alternate reality comics about the fall of the DC heroes? 

Never going to happen. Originally designed as a parody of all things terrible in the comic's industry during the 90s, Magog is a walking biblical allegory of how false idols often herald the end of days.

Give him a title that's even vaguely reminiscent of the Alex Ross art of Kingdom Come and the plot would play second fiddle to the art. He went toe to toe with Superman and his non-existent concern for the moral hurdles of classic heroes would give a Magog game an ultra-violent flare that will never see the light of day.

The Morning Star, Lucifer the first of the fallen has been portrayed in more games than we care to count.

Lucifer from the Sandman series, and other totally random DC appearances, is author Neil Gaiman's vision of an utterly charming David Bowie esque fallen angel that is only out matched by...um God.

A game where Lucifer loses control of hell and is some combination of detective story and GTAIV with angel wings would blow minds. Too bad that a game centering around a Sandman second stringer will literally never happen.

Preacher is our favorite series of all time. Period.

The baddest mother fucker in the series is the Saint of Killers who not only kills the Devil, but ends the series by putting a bullet between God's eyes.

So..yeah. It'll never happen in a million years, but a game tracing the Saint's origins during a Red Dead Redemption era existence to the guy who ends up sitting the throne of heaven would be a masterpiece. Too bad it'll never, ever happen.
