The Tablet Takeover is Nearly Complete: Tablets to Surpass All PC Shipments in 2015

They've changed the world.

First came the iPad, then came domination.

This year, tablet shipments will increase by 59 percent to 229.3 million units, according to market researcher, IDC. That means tablets will top all laptops shipments this year, and put shipments on track to pass all notebook and desktop shipments in 2015.

Apple's iPad blew the tablet market wide open, but even their market share has slowly stumbled thanks to lower-priced tablets that have hit the market, namely Android powered devices or Microsoft's Surface tablets. Competition is competition, and the IDC says that tablet prices should drop this year to an average of $381—that's about half the average desktop price of $635.

Will you be trading in your desktop for a tablet? Or have you already done that long ago?
