The 8 Types of People You Wanted in Your Myspace Top 8

This girl deserves to get some credit for being way ahead of the trend. It must have been hard taking a decent selfie on a flip phone. Although the primitive Myspace selfie left a few megapixels to the imagination, it had all the bare necessities: duck face, yoga pants, and the occasional peace sign. It was absolutely vital to have this girl in your Top 8 so you could constantly have something to look at.

Before Twitter, Instagram, and every other outlet allowed you to easily keep tabs of your favorite celebrities, there was Myspace. It allowed you to add your favorite rapper to your Top 8 in the hopes that they might actually become your friend someday. And now that we think about it, Myspace may have been the birthplace of, what's now refered to as, Instagram stalking.

Although we may think obnoxious club promoters are a recent development, they have been around for quite some time. The only difference is, back then they we hosting teen nights. Remember those? The parties with prepubescent kids who snuck in vodka via Poland Spring bottles. Who wouldn't want this guy as part of their Top 8?

If you had a boyfriend or girlfriend, it was mandatory that you put them in your Top 8. Otherwise, the relationship would dwindle quickly. This also raised the dilemma of who would get your No.1 slot--your best friend or your significant other.

Being the cool kid in high school is the modern day equivalent of being in the 1 percent. Since the chances of you ever reaching such a status were slim to none, the next best thing was to try and befriend the kids who were. Adding them to your Top 8 was just a way of trying to be nice, while also hoping that they would notice you.

Let's be real: Having your sibling as one of your top friends was more of a courtesy than anything else. That, and trying to keep your mother happy.

If you were lucky enough to be getting "some" back then, it was absolutely essential that you kept that person happy. One way of achieving this? Giving him or her prime real estate in your Top 8. You were guaranteed to reap the rewards later.

The truth of the matter: Myspace's Top 8 spawned tons of BFF drama. If your best friend wasn't at the top, you would inevitably get bitched at. So it was just easier for them to get a permanent spot in the top four.
