Much to our surprise, a study has identified North Dakota as the drunkest state in America. The Forum collected data from the 2011 American Community Survey, which revealed that North Dakota has the most bars per capita: one for every 1,621 residents. It also has the sixth-most liquor stores per capita, and two studies from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say North Dakota residents are prone to more frequent binge drinking than other Americans.

Despite having the most bars per capita, the state lacks a metropolitan area in the top five for bars per capita. This is because it lacks big cities. Hey, can't win 'em all.
