The University of California, Irvine fraternity who caused a recent uproar over a blackface incident has elected to suspend itself until the Fall of 2014. The trouble began when a video of Lambda Theta Delta members performing Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie" emerged, complete with one member wearing blackface. Why would anyone think that's a wise thing to do, let alone film?

On Wednesday, Lambda Theta Delta released the following statement:

"This decision is mainly due to the abhorrent, insensitive and highly offensive blackface video created by our members that has been circulated widely on the Internet. We are aware that the campus has initiated an investigation of our behavior in several videos involving racial insensitivity and alcohol use. We are cooperating fully with the University's investigation."

Disciplinary action may be taken by the university pending an internal investigation. The Los Angeles Times reports that the Lambda Theta Delta members involved were unaware that blackface is considered racist. What boulder of ignorance are they living under?
