"How I Met Your Mother's" Last Season Will Follow in "24's" Footsteps

Spoiler alert, obviously.

Oh, was everyone expecting How I Met Your Mother to finally progress the plot a little now just because the mother has officially been revealed? That's silly! Haven't we all been watching the same show for eight whole years now? They'd never do a totally logical thing like that.

In a new interview with TVLine, CBS president Nina Tassler divulged a little key info about the upcoming ninth - and final season of the series. Apparently, the entire season will take place on the weekend of Barney and Robin's wedding - just the weekend - and feature "how each character, before Ted, meets the mother. So, they each meet her independently before he does."

It's not clear what season nine's episode count is going to be, but if it's 24 episodes just like seasons 4-8 have been, that means basically each episode will just cover two hours of the characters' weekend. So, in short: The entire thing will be only slightly longer than a day in the life of Jack Bauer, and there won't even be any explosions to tide us over until the finale.
