The Doritos Locos Taco is one of Taco Bell's most successful creations, with nearly half a billion sold in their first year and some change of existence. However, a federal inmate claims that it was all his idea. Gary Cole filed a lawsuit with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas claiming to be the genius behind the fusion of brilliance and that Taco Bell and Frito-Lay stole the idea from him.

Cole says that in September 2006, he created a list with 9 items that included "Taco Shells of All Flavors (Made of Doritos)." He adds that in September 2010, the list was intercepted through the United States Postal Service Mail and then given to the companies by someone he can't identify.

Taco Bell told The Huffington Post that it hasn't been formally sued, but read the claims online and dismissed them. Cole wants Taco Bell and Frito-Lay to provide him with documents about the invention of the Doritos Locos Taco, which he says will prove that he is the true creator.

Good luck with that.
