"Star Trek: The Video Game" Launch Trailer Makes Us Weirdly Enthusiastic (Video)

A movie tie-in game that might not be horrible. Weird.

Look, we know better than most what sort of reputation hastily produced, officially licensed video games have.

Slap a picture of Iron Man (or whoever) on the box, and make sure it's on shelves the same week the movie opens is usually the modus operandi of most tie-ins. Why then does Star Trek: The Video Game make us cautiously optimistic about an officially licensed release? Could it be that we are secret acolytes of the cult of J.J. Abrams and believe that the man can do no wrong? Perhaps.

More likely it has to do with the fact that Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin all lend their voices to the title. Also, it seems like an action-adventure title set in the Star Trek universe should be a no-brainer. Hopefully, we aren't completely off base.

The crew of the U.S.S Enterprise will be going head to head with a lizard race known as The Gorn. You may remember The Gorn from their debut back in the 60s. Star Trek: The Video Game drops today for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC. Watch the trailer and let us know what you think.
