When Dances With Wolves was announced as the Best Picture of 1990, an outcry started that has never stopped. Widely regarded as Martin Scorsese's masterpiece (among many other strong options), Goodfellas, based on Nicholas Pileggi's book Wiseguy, tells the true story of Henry Hill and his low-level Mob cohorts. Its gritty realism and brutal violence de-mystified the romanticized vision of the Mafia put forth by Coppola's Godfather films, and turned the phrase "Now go home and get your f*#kin' shinebox!" into one of the greatest film insults of all time.
