Legendary comedian Jonathan Winters, best known for his roles in It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World and as the voice of Papa Smurf in The Smurfs, passed away of natural causes in his Montecito, CA home last night. He was 87.

Winters appeared in over 50 movies and countless television shows over the course of his career, including The Twilight Zone, Mork and Mindy, and his own NBC variety program, The Jonathan Winters Show. His style of comedy was highly influential, and he was considered one of the most famous comics of his time. His career in entertainment began after he won a talent show in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio.

 Most recently, Winters voiced Papa Smurf in the 2011 Smurfs film, and the not-yet-released Smurfs 2.
