If you were counting on that Oz The Great and Powerful sequel being directed by Sam Raimi, stop that now - according to the director himself, he has no plans to return to the franchise after directing the first box office success.

"I haven’t planned on directing the sequel," he told Bleeding Cool of the project, which was announced shortly after the first film was projected to open to a cool $80 million domestically. "I was attracted to this story but I don’t think the second one would have the thing I would need to get me interested."

Though he squashed those hopes and dreams, Raimi did give a bit of a hint about what the sequel might cover: "I did leave some loose ends for another director if they want to make the picture...I tried to make it a complete ending, so that the audience would be fulfilled, but I also let Evenora and Theodora get away." So, basically the Raimi-less movie will probably focus on that, because it definitely won't be focusing on ruby red slipper-wearing farm girl Dorothy - according to producer Joe Roth, that is "absolutely not" happening. Sorry, Raimi and Dorothy fans.
