Alaskan Double-Amputee Shoots Walmart Worker During Trivial Argument

It's not that serious.

In one of the weekend's most bizarre crimes, a double-amputee shot a Walmart employee in the stomach after the worker asked the man to put a leash on his dog. The man did his best to flee the scene in a motorized shopping cart, but only made it to the store's front door before being arrested. Army Sgt. Carlos Morales witnessed the incident and said that another employee told him what happened, but there was no announcement made in the store.

"Some people were frantic. Some people were just shopping, because they didn't know," Morales said. The Anchorage Daily News says that there almost no evidence that a shooting had taken place except for a piece of yellow tape and an worker who told the reporter "Sporting goods isn't going to be open for a little while."

33-year-old Jason Mahi is in stable condition after undergoing surgery. 45-year-old Daniel Pirtle was charged with misconduct involving a weapon and assault. His service dog has been taken by an Anchorage police officer. Pirtle's bail has been set at $50,000—cash only.
