Study Shows That Times Square is NYC's Happiest Location

There's a reason.

None

According to a study conducted by the University of Vermont, Times Square is the happiest place in New York City. A group of researchers used a complicated formula to determine where tweets are coming from and their level of "happiness" and "sadness," according to key words.

The study didn't rank neighborhoods according to happiness, but it made it perfectly clear that Times Square and its surrounding area had the largest collection of "happy" tweets. In contrast, the largest concentration of "unhappy" tweets came from the area near Ground Zero, which is completely understandable.

Researchers think they know why Times Square has been identified as the city's ray of sunshine: tourism. “We know people who travel are generally happier, so that could play a role, people tweeting, ‘Oh, Times Square!’" says researcher Lewis Mitchell
