The BAFTA—British Academy of Film and Television Arts—awards were tonight in London, and Argo won big. Despite being snubbed at the Academy Arts, Ben Affleck won Best Director (he also won the Golden Globe and the Director's Guild award). Argo also won Best Film and Best Editing.

Skyfall won Outstanding British Film, and director Sam Mendes says the old reason Daniel Craig wasn't nominated for his performance is because of the "Bond curse." Emmanuelle Riva won Leading Actress for the French-language film Amour while Daniel Day-Lewis took home the award for Leading Actor for Lincoln.

We can't say if all these accolades for Affleck from his peers and the industry make up for not even getting an Oscar nomination, but it probably helps. Congrats!
