When the Pacific Rim trailer debuted last month, Portal fans had a collective nerdgasm over the voice of the A.I. in the new Guillermo del Toro film. It sounded an awful lot like Portal villain GLaDOS. At the time it was revealed that the voice we were hearing was indeed the voice of Ellen McLain, the actress who plays GLaDOS in the games.

More recently, Del Toro told the Toronto Sun that he had indeed approached Portal developers Valve about using the GLaDOS voice in the trailer. But it turns out the A.I. voice that we'll hear in the full film won't be quite so blatantly similar to GLaDOS's.

“I said, ‘Look, there’s no A.I. I’d rather have than GlaDOS,’” del Toro told the Sun. But in the full movie, it won't sound exactly like the sociopathic A.I. from the games. “The filter we’re using is slightly less GLaDOS. Slightly. The one in the trailer I wanted to be full-on GlaDOS.”

So McLain will still be playing the character in the movie, but it won't sound exactly like GLaDOS like it does in the trailer. Are you glad you won't be distracted by thoughts of cake throughout the film? Or do you feel like the trailer was a bit of false advertising now that you know it won't actually be the same voice?
