The viral image of the week (and possibly the new year) came after a man's horrendous behavior forced passengers and an off-duty captain to restrain him using duct tape and plastic ties on a flight from Reykjavik to JFK International Airport. Although 46-year-old Gudmundur Karl Arthorsson wasn't arrested, he was detained in what's arguably a more embarrassing fashion.

According to Andy Ellwood, who posted the classic photo on his Tumblr, Arthorsson "drank an entire bottle of hard liquor two to three hours into the flight." A flight attendant reportedly confiscated two liquor bottles after that, but he went into the seat pocket in front of him and started drinking "a variety" of their mini-bottles.

Two hours before the plane landed, Arthorsson became verbally abusive towards the crew and other passengers. But when he started choking and groping other passengers while screaming that the plane was going to crash, everyone realized that something had to be done. That something is the greatest picture imaginable.

After being bound and gagged for everyone's peace of mind, Arthorsson was met by police when the plane landed and taken to Jamaica Hospital to be treated for alcohol poisoning. Local authorities didn't believe his behavior warranted charges, and other passengers declined to come forward with details about his behavior.

Perhaps they all thought the picture was an appropriate amount of justice.
