Mario and Link weren't the only stars during the Nintendo Direct broadcast today. Nintendo also announced a new Wii U game starring Yoshi, the first for a major console since 1998's Yoshi's Story.

It's in development by the team that created Kirby's Epic Yarn, which is clear as soon as you see the screenshots. What's even more interesting is that it's reportedly being overseen by Takashi Tezuka, the director of both Yoshi's Story and the SNES classic Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. So in other words it should be good.
